Home Decor Stores

Home decorating can be fun especially if you know where to start. If you are planning to decorate your home, first you have to know what style you want and how you foresee your home after decorating. Then, you can look at your old stuff and see what has to go and what changes you want to make. Obviously, things that are old and unattractive are the first on your to-go list. After this, you ready to look for home décor ideas, and the best place to begin your search is at home décor stores. Home décor stores can offer you a wide selection of home décor items ranging from candleholders to photo frames. You can also find home décor accessories like art pictures, area rugs, textiles, handmade candles, figurines and wall hangings.

Before you buy any of these items, make sure that you compare prices from different home décor stores. Think about the stores with discounts and clearance sales – you just might get these items at a fraction of the cost. But of course, you should also look for a reliable home décor store because you could be sacrificing the quality of your home décor items to save a few pennies, only to realize later that the items you purchased easily get damaged.

Nowadays, many people consider shopping at online home décor stores, especially if they have a very busy work schedule and can’t find time to visit a local store. All you have to do is to browse through websites and look for the home décor items that you need. And once you decide which items to purchase, you can simply place your order online and have it delivered to your door.

Finding A Great Home Decor Store

Jen and I have been to home decor store after home decor store looking for something unique. Wherever we go it’s the same accessories, the same furniture just dressed up a different way. No character, no style, no real identity. How can you as a consumer avoid the trap of the cookie cutter home decor emporium?

1) Stay away from the mall! Mall rents are a bit higher, so the chains can buy space but the average small business person is usually left on the outside looking in.

2) Bigger is not always better. If you want your home to look like everyone else’s, go to a big store and buy what everyone else is buying. The only exception to the big store rule is Hobby Lobby, in my opinion, they bring unique items in all the time and the prices are unbeatable.

3) Look downtown and not just in the big city. Our smaller towns and villages are great sources for little hole in the wall home decor stores. Take a place like McKinney, TX, for example. McKinney’s downtown square is an awesome source of home decor and specialty stores. Lee’s Summit, MO is another fine example of a downtown square with several decor stores.

4) Don’t be afraid to travel a little. Grab a couple friends, jump in the SUV and make a day trip of it. Nell Hills in Atchison, KS is one of the premier home decor destinations in the Great Plains. 95% of their customers come from over 50 miles away. If you’re in St. Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, Sioux Falls, Wichita, Lincoln, or Des Moines, consider a day trip to Nell Hills.

You are definitely not doomed to a life of bland, copy-cat, flavor of the moment home decor. Follow these rules and you will find those diamonds in the rough and open a whole new world of possibilities.

Horsing Around in Your Home Decor

Horses are beautiful and graceful animals that can add different things to the rooms in your home, such as rustic charm or classic elegance. It depends on the rest of the room’s decor and the type of horse that you add to it, from classic beauties such as racehorses or Arabians to comical representations or rustic painted ponies. Horsing around in your home decor can be a lot of fun and a really interesting way to complete the look you love for each room.

Horse Accessories

Most of us decorate by choosing the perfect accessories and accents for each room, keeping the background shades on the walls and floor neutral and letting the decor stand out through these touches. There are literally hundreds of different ways to add horse accessories to any room, such as horse bust lamps for instance. They are attractive and add a rustic touch to your decor, especially if you choose a wrought iron or bronze lamp. You can find them online or in a few traditional home decor stores, but make sure it is one that caters to country and western decor to find ideas that look authentic and stylish instead of being cheesy or looking tacky.

Horsehair

Horsehair is a less than common idea that tends to be a little harder to find and most people today opt for faux horsehair. It is smooth and silky, the perfect choice for furniture or rugs in the living room or media room especially. It can be a little more on the costly side than a lot of other options, and it takes some special care to keep it looking great, but it is worth it if you want the perfect horse touch in any space. To find horsehair decor, it is usually easiest to use online resources unless you know a place that sells this type of accent.

Horse Art

Artwork is the most common representation of the horse in our homes, from beautiful and stylish framed prints to busts, statues, miniatures, figures, and horses of all sizes and shapes. They can be incorporated into almost any decor style, even the most elegant styles, with the right artistic medium. For instance, a heavy bronze horse statue makes a perfect table or mantel centerpiece, while prints of painted ponies in matching white frames are very cute for a little girls’ bedroom. Another example would be matching classy bookends on a wood-finish bookcase or mantel, made from clay, silver, bronze, wrought iron, or even wood, depending on the rest of the room’s decor.

Horses are featured in artwork from around the world, although most people tend to view them as solely additions to a Western-themed room with cowboys and Indians. Nothing could be further from the truth, and they are an attractive addition to almost any room with the right colors and textures. Whether you go all out and feature a life-size horse bust with matching horsehair furniture and accents or choose something subtle to finish the look of your room, horsing around is a great way to add something unique to your home.
